Features of power supplies
Any LED requires a stabilizer. Transformers for LEDs (even high-frequency pulse ones) cannot be used just like that. The switching regulator allows you to get the highest possible efficiency. It has a rather complex circuit, in which the emphasis is on protection against mains voltage. In any power supply unit, even the most budgetary one, there is no direct galvanic connection of the output low-voltage circuit with a 220-volt network. This makes them safe devices. There is only a transformer connection, through reliable insulation between the windings. In terms of protection against mains voltage, pulse sources are ahead of transformer ones.

Power source selection
The selection is carried out according to three parameters:

output voltage;
form factor of execution.
In terms of power, a margin of 10% should be made. Too much stock, for example, 100% is also not needed. This will increase energy consumption and the initial cost of the equipment. It is not necessary to load the DC power supply to 100% as it will begin to operate in the extreme temperature mode. Heat dissipation should be considered when choosing an installation site. The switch must be installed at the entrance, not at the exit. These simple rules allow it to be operated without repair for a number of years.

Power calculation
For LED strips, the power is calculated by the number of meters and the parameters indicated on the package. It is also indicated for floodlights, low-voltage lamps and all other products. If the information about the power is not known (this very often happens with LED strips) when the package is lost, then it can always be accurately set using an ammeter. Readings in amperes must be multiplied by 12 (or other values ​​corresponding to the supply voltage).

Form factor
The form factor is determined by the operating environment. Sealed and semi-sealed enclosures are useless at home. This is an extra surcharge in cost and an extra heat load for the components of the device, but for lighting pools, fountains, you cannot do without them. Outdoor decorative and outdoor lighting often has a lot of power, so manufacturers produce the corresponding power supply models. A typical sealed model has a power of about 25 watts. Perforated "home" power supplies have a power of 5 watts.
